The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 set three thresholds: a lower exposure action value of 80 dB(A) (assess the risk; provide information and training), an upper exposure action value of 85 dB(A) (provide hearing protection and hearing protection zones; provide health surveillance for employees at risk from noise), and an exposure limit value of 87 dB(A) — taking account of hearing protection — which must not be exceeded. What are the noise action values?
Under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 there is a lower exposure action value of 80 dB(A) — at which the employer must assess the risk and provide information and training; an upper exposure action value of 85 dB(A) — at which hearing protection and hearing protection zones must be provided, and health surveillance provided for employees at risk from noise (typically those regularly exposed above this value, and anyone otherwise at risk); and an exposure limit value of 87 dB(A) (taking account of hearing protection) which must not be exceeded.
